Experimental Investigation of Thermal Performance in an Advanced Solar Collector with Spiral Tube
Authors
Abstract:
This paper reports the thermal performance of a new cylindrical solar collector based on an experimental investigation with this difference that instead of the collector tube with absorbent coating, coil into a spiral copper tube is placed in the center of the collector. The spiral shape of the tube, heat transfer without disruption or increase the heat transfer area, is increasing. In this case, the centrifugal forces generated secondary flow, increases the coefficient of the convection heat transfer. Another advantage of this type of collector to the flat plate collector, its circular shape that is constantly exposed to sunlight. Measuring cylindrical solar collector inlet and outlet temperatures, on September 6-8, 2012 from 10 AM to 14 PM, the thermal efficiency is between 43.5 to 58.7 percent. The obtained results of this article can be useful for analysis of the solar energy systems.

Experimental Investigation of the Thermal Performance of Vacuum Tube Solar Collectors (VTSC) Using Alumina Nanofluids
The enhancement of the thermal performance of Vacuum Tube Solar Collectors (VTSC) was studied by using alumina nanofluid as working fluid. VTSC is a simple and commonly utilized type of collector. This study established the heat transfer experimental model of all glass VTSCs used in a forced-circulation solar water heating system using alumina nanofluid as base fluid. Al2O3 (with an average par...

The shape of a solar collector is an important factor in solar-to-thermal energy conversion. Conical shape is one of the stationary and symmetric shapes that can be employed as a solar water heater. Flow rate of working fluid on the solar collector has an important effect on the efficiency of the collector. The present study is an experimentally investigated of the performance of the solar coni...
full textAn experimental investigation on the performance of a symmetric conical solar collector using SiO2/water nanofluid
One of the effective methods to improve the thermal efficiency of solar collectors is using nanofluids as the coolant. The present study experimentally investigated the effect of SiO2/water nanofluid with 1% mass fraction on the performance of a symmetric collector, i.e. conical solar collector. The conical solar collector with 1 m2 area and normal to the earth was tested in Ahvaz, a city in th...

Energy is one of the essential requirements of livinghood. In present scenario conventional energy resources for producing energy to sustain our lives has become a necessity. Since these sources are depleting at faster rate and cost of energy is increasing simultaneously, so conversion of renewable form of energy is much desired and solar energy is a good resource. The present work is based on ...
